Self Sovereign Identity (SSI)

The next generation of digital identities aims to restore control and ownership of users’ identities and the data associated with them and give them back to the user. The digital identity technology used by Pocket is called a self-sovereign identity, or SSI.

SSI is a tamper-proof digital identity leveraging blockchain technology. SSI uses decentralized identifiers, known as DIDs, to create unique personal identities. Encrypted links to DIDs create the connections to different organizations and signed verifiable credentials form the basis of an SSI ecosystem. This unique identity is entirely owned and controlled by the user, not by other third parties.

Pocket currently utilizes the blockchain identity provided by Hyperledger Indy.
